300 Essential Spanish Words with Real Sentences

Spanish words for the situations you meet every day
A vocabulary list is easier to use when its words connect to familiar situations. This lesson groups the 300 headwords into topics such as people and family, rooms at home, food, drinks, daily routines, places in town, transport, work, feelings, and everyday conversation.
You will also practice essential verbs, time expressions, numbers, descriptions, and question words. Start with the topic you can put to work today: food before cooking, directions before a trip, or family words before describing the people in your life.
These are 300 words selected from the LSFR word library. Each comes with an English meaning and a real sentence to show a useful sense of the word. Spanish words can have several meanings, so treat the example as a starting point and notice how the meaning changes in other contexts.
How the listen-and-repeat practice works
For each word, listen to the Spanish, its English meaning, a slower Spanish reading, and a slower English reading. Then follow the same sequence with the example sentence. Pause whenever you need more speaking time.
- Listen first. Hear the word before trying to copy it. Pay attention to the stressed syllable and the rhythm of the example.
- Repeat out loud. Use the slower reading to work through the sounds, then try the word again at a comfortable pace.
- Connect it to the sentence. Ask what the word means in this particular situation.
- Recall before checking. During a recall prompt, attempt the Spanish answer before you hear it again.
The first 19 chapters each contain three word-recall prompts: 57 prompts in total. After word 300, the lesson moves to the closing invitation. The repeated readings and recall rounds give you extra practice with the same vocabulary.
Turn one long lesson into a small daily routine
You do not have to learn all 300 words in one sitting. Try one chapter a day, or stop after five words if that gives you enough new material. Finishing the video and remembering the vocabulary are different goals.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| Watch | Choose a chapter and listen to a small group of words. |
| Speak | Repeat each word and its example sentence aloud. |
| Recall | Look away and try to remember the Spanish from its English meaning. |
| Use | Make one short sentence about your own day. |
| Return | Revisit the same words tomorrow before adding more. |
For example, the lesson includes Pon mantequilla en el pan. — “Put butter on the bread.” Once you understand it, try recalling the sentence while you prepare food. Keep your own practice short enough that you can check what you say.
